For over 20 years, veteran broadcaster Jim Masters has worked on-air and behind the scenes in both Television and Radio in the highly competitive New York and New England markets.  In addition to Jim’s work on the air with WELI and behind the scenes, he’s also covered election nights for the station, has performed countless voice-overs for clients and has appeared at many station events and LIVE remote broadcasts. He’s always been a team player. “I’m a broadcaster through and through and I love the industry,” said Jim. “It’s an ever-changing and fickle business and I love the day to day challenge. I have great respect for our business and for those who depend on us everyday to inform, educate, and entertain them. I love that I get to do that on my show every week,” added Jim.

Through the years, Jim Masters’ experience and skills have allowed him to wear many important hats as Host, Spokesperson, Correspondent/Reporter, Voice-Over Artist, Writer, Actor, and Emcee. He’s appeared in and has been featured on numerous local, regional, national and international shows and productions.  

Jim started his career fresh out of college in the behind the scenes at WLNY-TV Long Island, New York. While at WLNY Jim wore several hats and served as Assistant TV Traffic Manager, Voice-Over Announcer and TV Telethon Host and Connecticut Bureau Chief and News Reporter for the station’s award-winning 10pm news broadcast. Jim also worked as On-Air Announcer at WLIX-AM Long Island, New York and as a freelance TV Pledge and Auction Co-Host for PBS and WLIW-TV Long Island, New York. He has continued to work in TV and radio simultaneously.

In 1990 Jim transitioned from New York to Connecticut after accepting a position with WTWS-TV New London, Connecticut. While there he served as TV Traffic Manager, Station Voice-Over Announcer, Spokesperson, Sports Show Host and News Assistant for the station’s 10pm news program. From WTWS, Jim moved over to WTYD-FM/WNLC-AM New London, Connecticut where he served as Midday Announcer and News Anchor for WTYD and Host/Producer and Account executive for the station’s highly successful six day a week shopping program, “The WNLC Shopping Center Show.” Jim also served as a freelance Feature Writer for “THE RESIDENT” newspaper Stonington, Connecticut.

Celebrity Interviewer for 20 years and he has interviewed countless celebrities, newsmakers, business leaders, politicians and notables such as Sarah Brightman, Patti Page, John Tesh, Jim Brickman, Jacques Pepin, Celtic Woman, The Irish Tenors, Chris Botti, Nana Mouskouri, Dennis DeYoung, Ronan Tynan, Michael Amante, Actor Tony LoBianco, Dr. Bernie Siegel, Celtic Thunder, The High Kings, and many others.  He’s helped raise millions of dollars for PBS programming, including, Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Jim also owns his own talent business and he has appeared in numerous television commercials, corporate videos, and industrials and serves as TV Host/Spokesperson/On-Camera Talent in many national and international infomercial shows.  He also performs countless voice-overs for TV, Radio, video projects, voicemail greeting and audio books.

In addition to his work with PBS and Clear Channel, Jim is also On-Camera TV Host and Celebrity Reporter for “Close-Up On America’s Business”. A Telly Award-winning TV newsmagazine show airing in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Orlando Chicago and Tuscon on the I-ON television network.

He’s also been cast in the network TV shows, LAW & ORDER on NBC and LIGHT’S OUT on FX.


Through the years, Jim’s on-air efforts have helped to raise awareness and dollars for numerous charitable organizations such as: The Arthritis Foundation, The American Cancer Society, Connecticut Food Share, The Women’s Center Of Southeastern Connecticut and Animal Haven.

Jim has won numerous industry awards and recognition over the years and was awarded the prestigious American Cancer Society Media Award for his efforts as Host and Co-Producer of a popular cable television public affairs show for The American Cancer Society called, “Cancer Awareness”. He also competed in and took high honors in the Sony Pictures/Game Show Network “National Search For A Game Show Host” out of thousands of potential Hosts.

Jim is a graduate of Long Island University/C.W. Post College, Long Island, New York where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with specialization in Visual and Performing Arts. He’s also attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, John Casablanca’s School Of Modeling, New England Academy Of Theatre and studied voice with The Art Of Voice in New York City, Mediabistro and Edge Studio’s Voice Design Group. Even with significant education, Jim continues to take refresher classes and courses to stay on top of current trends.

He is an avid gardener, consumer expert, news and weather junkie, sports fan and is a big collector of instrumental music. He loves TV & Radio trivia, and spending quality time with family and friends.
