Jim Martin's Bio

Jim Martin is a financial planner specializing in the accumulation and preservation of family wealth with the Barnum Financial Group in Wethersfield, CT. Originally from southeastern CT, Jim graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, in Worcester, MA, and then began his nearly decade-long career in asset management at a boutique investment firm in Manhattan. From there, he joined one of the industry’s largest investment firms, until being hired by the Barnum Financial Group after seven years. As an investments expert, Jim may frequently be found teaching financial education seminars on site in some of Connecticut’s largest employers.
An active member of the community, Jim volunteers by serving on the boards of various non-profit agencies, and also is a foster parent, finding homes for abused or abandoned dogs. He is currently struggling to convince his 13th foster dog, Frankie, that despite their appearance, squirrels are not stuffed with “squeakers” like his other toys. When not volunteering, Jim enjoys golf, powerlifting, and travel.

Jim Ian is a leading financial planner at Barnum Financial Group, MetLife’s # 1 office. Working in the financial services industry for the past ten years Jim has the necessary experience to understand that each client is unique and warrants individualized attention. Jim has assisted hundreds of clients to grow, protect and preserve their wealth, ensuring financial security for themselves and people that depend on them for their support. As an advisor affiliated with a winning team, Jim has a plethora of resources to pull from to support any situation his clients face. Making conscious investment decisions in alignment with core values is a principle that Jim empowers his clients to understand and implement. Combining his educational background with his ability to get to the true essence of clients' financial needs, Jim’s clients feel more at peace after he meets with them to review the financial plan.
Jim is one of the top instructors of the Retirewise Program that teaches financial literacy courses at various organizations and corporations, including Moodys, Textron, Cartus, Covidien, Honeywell. He provides objective information and guidance to the employees in a series of seminars that cover a wide range of topics.
Prior to joining the Barnum Financial Group, Jim was the Regional Vice President at Prudential Investments, managing a multibillion dollar product line. Jim is a Chairman’s and President’s Conference Qualifier, a top producer at Barnum Financial Group and is Connecticut Long Term Care Partnership qualified.
Currently, Jim resides in Guilford with his wife Dana and their 2 children. He is an active member of the Guilford Chamber of Commerce and Holy Trinity Church and serves on the board of the Shubert Theater. Jim coaches both little league and youth soccer in Guilford.


Matt Paulsen's Bio

Matt is an active member in the Financial Planning Association, a two times Leaders Conference qualifier and a member of the exclusive Million Dollar Round Table. Locally, Matt is Connecticut Long Term Care Partnership certified and continues to educate himself with near completion of his CFP and CASL designations. Matt is an honors graduate from Providence College with dual degrees in Finance and Business Management.
Currently, Matt teaches Corporate Education in Northeast Utilities, Backus Hospital, Honeywell, Choate-Rosemary Hall, and Seton.
