Another Summer to a Close
A great Summer of events is coming to an end(yes I know Fall doesn't officially start until September but realistically we're getting ready for Fall Sports and the opening of schools. But what a great Summer.
American Legion baseball was again played at a high level and how about Branford making it to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. Congrats to them on such a fine season, but also congrats to all the teams for making the playoffs.
Little League Baseball and Softball flourished statewide. Many young boys and girls once again benefitted from this great organization.
Westport has made it to the Little League World Series with a chance to complete a dream come true that so many just dream about but never attain.
But it's amazing that so many of the Fall leagues - baseball, football, soccer etc. all start in August - that's not Fall - but as I've said before - every sport now is 12 months a year!
Be that as it may, it's time to get ready for Fall - and High School Football - ah yes, teams have officially started their season, getting ready for their opening game. There will be many scrinmages before that until the opening kickoff on Wednesday, September 11(ironically enough).
The Road to the State Championships in December will begin. This year the Championships will be held at CCSU, a much smaller venue than Rentschuler Field in East Hartford, home of the UCONN Huskies.
In my mind, a great move by the CIAC. Yes, a smaller site, but when 4,000 or 5,000 show up for the game, the place will be filled up and it will give a more championship atmosphere.
So let us start the road together. High School Football on 960WELI, 960WELI.com, 101.3FMHD2 and iheart radio.(WELI is a free app on your iphone) No excuses now not to listen. I look forward to our journey together.
